Em Setembro de 2013, Mujica discursou na Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas sobre, essencialmente, Sustentabilidade e Humanidade.
Falou sobre consumo desregrado, desigualdade e o modelo de sociedade virado para o trabalho excessivo (para alimentar o consumo desregrado).
